Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf was founded at the beginning of the 20th century as an academy for practical medicine and elevated to university status in 1965. It takes its name from the Düsseldorf poet Heinrich Heine. Last year, the university in the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia celebrated its 50th anniversary.
